Clare Lord is the founder and Executive Director of W.I.S.E. Philosophy, a community outreach initiative that takes a very different approach to obesity and weight loss. Entitled Stop Telling Yourself to Eat Less and Exercise More: The WISE Approach to a Happier & Healthier You, this unique program emphasizes Well-being (instead of weight), Insight (instead of unconscious, mindless behaviour) Support (providing belongingness and accountability), and Education (the cornerstone of permanent change). The success of a three-year pilot program group has generated a book and training program based on this experience.
Prior to creating W.I.S.E. Philosophy, Clare applied her educational background in psychology, science and nutritional sciences while serving as the Executive Director of ANAB (Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia) Quebec where she conceived and implemented their clinical programs; most notably, their support group program for those with anorexia and bulimia. A Genesis Foundation grant recipient, Clare published a guidebook (and companion workbook) entitled Through Thick & Thin: A Guide to Leading an Eating Disorder Support Group that is used in healthcare settings across Canada and the US. An award-winning public speaker, she has developed multi-media presentations (eg, the influence of media on body image, how to raise children to have a healthy relationship with food, weight and self-esteem) which she has presented internationally, nationally and locally to over 10,000 attendees.
